Our Story so far

In 2008, Brandon Lee – a National Merit Scholar and triple-major student at Arizona State University – realized he hated working at Wells Fargo. A teacher at heart, he founded Test Prep Coaching, the forerunner of 36 By Design.

Since then, Brandon has fine-tuned 36 By Design's one-to-one tutoring curriculum, deploying his vast experience and app-development technical skills to optimize your tutoring experience.

Today, 36 By Design features a fun, close-nit, and absurdly smart staff that is excited to work with you. And Brandon's wife is a keeper.

So let's get started!

New Technology- launching Spring 2018

We developed an awesome–and exclusive–app that our new students will use for practice. Every question is logged, so we can see real-time graphs tracking pace and be alerted to hard-to-see patterns in missed questions. We can rapidly review tough questions from weeks ago or feed students new, similar questions for targeted practice. It's pretty cool if we do say so ourselves.

A New Experience of Flavor

Coffee tastes have changed so much that I remember around 2012, introducing a much more acidic coffee into our blend thinking we were going to lead customers into a new experience of flavour, only to be dismayed on day one with customer’s dissatisfaction with a fruitier and more flavourful coffee. Coffee is after all the seed of a fruit. From then on, we began to work at a gradual pace, turning up the brightness a little, season after season. Today we can proudly craft a coffee with notes of lemon meringue, strawberry or passionfruit and find people on all sides of the counter are learning and developing their pallets.

More Focus on Mentality

Many students underperform on the ACT/SAT because they suffer from test anxiety, don't know how to study and retain effectively, or, ironically, become overconfident in their skills.

For the first time ever, we are treating the mental aspect of test taking as though it were its own subject on the test. Students will use these mental skills and tactics for college and life.
